Short answer: Crossrope AMP Handles are jump rope handles with built-in electronics. They count your jumps and send the data via Bluetooth to the Crossrope app, where you see your count, pace and history. You need a phone or tablet, the free app and, according to Crossrope, a paid membership for the connected features. US price on crossrope.com as of Oct 31, 2026: $99.95 for the handles alone, $199 for the AMP Set with ropes.

I bought the AMP Handles myself and have used them. It is hugely motivating to push yourself with the app and the handles while jumping, and it is fun to document your progress with them. Technical details on this page are according to Crossrope (product pages and FAQ on crossrope.com, checked on October 31, 2026).

This page explains what the handles are, how they work and how to set them up. If you mainly want to know whether they are worth the money, read my Crossrope AMP review, which does the cost math and the verdict.

What AMP Handles are

Crossrope sells a modular jump rope system: you clip ropes of different weights onto the same pair of handles. AMP Handles are the connected version of those handles. From the outside, they do the same job as the classic ones. Inside, there is a battery, a Bluetooth module and electronics that register each turn of the rope.

According to Crossrope, each handle weighs 5.7 oz (162 g), has a diameter of 27 mm and sits between the classic Slim and Power Handles in shape and size. Like the other Crossrope handles, they use precision steel bearings and the fast-clip connection, so the ropes and Ropeless attachments you may already have keep working.

A word on the name: AMP is Crossrope's product name. I'm not aware of an official meaning behind the letters. In everyday English, to “amp up” something loosely means to boost or push it, and that fits my own experience with them quite well.

How AMP works, from jump to app

The idea is simple. The handles count, the phone displays and stores. In practice it looks like this:

  1. You pair the handles with the Crossrope app once.
  2. You start a workout or a free jump session in the app.
  3. While you jump, the handles count every turn and send the data to the app via Bluetooth.
  4. The app shows your numbers live and saves the session to your history.

According to Crossrope, AMP tracks your total jumps, your current, maximum and average jumps per minute, your longest streak without a miss, jumps per interval, your workout history and personal jump targets. With the Standard membership, the app adds guided workouts, programs, video classes, a custom workout builder and an AI Coach. Crossrope also lists Apple Watch support, Apple Health and casting workouts to a TV, and says one membership covers up to five household members.

If you want to know how jump counting works without any electronics, and why different devices often disagree, my German guide on counting jumps covers it.

The two membership levels differ a lot. Lite covers jump counting, real-time stats and the leaderboard with only a few workouts. Standard adds, according to Crossrope, over 3,000 workouts and more than 50 programs. Memberships are billed separately through the app, and according to Crossrope, the 60-day return policy covers the products but not the membership, so starting monthly is the cautious option.

Setting up: pairing and charging

According to Crossrope, the handles arrive charged, so you can start right away. Pairing, as Crossrope describes it:

  1. Install the app, create an account and choose a membership.
  2. Open AMP in the app menu.
  3. Press the button on your handle. The first pairing takes about 30 seconds; after that, it should connect instantly.
  4. Clip in a rope and start a session.

To charge, Crossrope says you unscrew the green cap, remove the battery, connect it to any Micro USB cable plugged into a laptop or USB wall adapter, and put it back once it is charged. Crossrope states up to 6 months of use per charge. How long it lasts for you depends on how often and how long you jump.

Handles only or the AMP Set?

If you already own Crossrope ropes with the current clip system, the handles alone add the counting to your existing setup. If you are starting from scratch, the AMP Set includes the handles plus three ropes. On crossrope.com, the AMP Set page links directly to the handles-only option: ☞ AMP Set page on crossrope.com (links to the handles-only option).

The warranty differs from the classic handles. According to Crossrope, the non-electronic parts have a limited lifetime warranty on material and workmanship, while the battery and electronics are covered for one year. An extended warranty of one to three extra years costs extra and must be bought within 60 days.

My experience with the AMP Handles

I bought the AMP Handles myself and have used them. Two things stood out for me. First, the grip: the handles are great and very grippy, and even when I sweat, I can still hold them securely. Second, the motivation: pushing myself with the app and the AMP Handles while jumping rope was hugely motivating, and documenting my progress through the app was fun. Instead of guessing, you see what you did.

Who AMP Handles are for, and who can skip them

They suit you if numbers motivate you, you want a record of your sessions, you already own Crossrope ropes and want to add counting, or you prefer guided workouts to planning every session yourself.

You can skip them if you don't want another subscription, you plan your own sessions with a timer and a notebook, or you are new to jumping rope and not sure yet whether you will stick with it.

Limitations to know about

  • The counting needs a membership. Budget for it on top of the purchase price.
  • A battery to look after. Classic handles never need charging.
  • Shorter warranty on electronics. One year as standard, according to Crossrope.
  • Not made for very heavy ropes. Crossrope advises against high-volume use with 3 lb ropes and heavier.
  • Returns outside the US cost money. According to Crossrope, free returns apply to US customers only.
  • Counting is not coaching. A number shows what happened; it doesn't fix your technique.

Other ways to count jumps

If you only want a count, there are simpler options: a timer and interval rounds, a watch you already own, or a rope or clip-on tracker with a built-in counter. How accurate any of these is varies, so test before you rely on one. If you like the Crossrope system but not the electronics, the classic sets use the same ropes without a membership: ☞ Get Lean Set on crossrope.com (US price on crossrope.com as of Oct 31, 2026: $129). FAQ

Do AMP Handles work without the app?

You can jump with them like with any Crossrope handles. According to Crossrope, jump counting, real-time stats and the app workouts need the Crossrope app and a paid membership, so without them the electronics stay unused.

Which ropes fit the AMP Handles?

According to Crossrope, they work with all Crossrope ropes and Ropeless attachments that use the clip system introduced in fall 2017, except first-generation models. Crossrope says they pair best with 1/4, 1/2, 1 and 2 lb ropes and does not recommend them for high-volume training with 3 lb ropes or heavier.

How do I pair the AMP Handles with my phone?

Crossrope describes it like this: open the app, go to AMP in the menu and press the button on your handle. The first pairing takes about 30 seconds; after that, it should connect instantly.

How do I charge the AMP Handles?

According to Crossrope, you unscrew the green cap, take the battery out and charge it with a Micro USB cable (one is included) from a laptop or a USB wall adapter, then put it back. Crossrope states up to 6 months of use per charge, and the handles ship charged.

What does AMP mean?

AMP is Crossrope's product name, and I'm not aware of an official meaning behind the letters. Loosely, to “amp up” something in English means to boost or push it, which fits what the handles are meant to do for your training.

How do the AMP Handles feel in the hand?

From my own use: they are great and very grippy, and you can still hold them securely when your hands get sweaty.

Bottom line

AMP Handles turn the Crossrope system into one that keeps count. The handles do the counting, the app does the rest, and the membership is part of the deal. If numbers keep you going, they can be a real motivation boost; they did that for me. Whether that is worth the price over time is what my AMP review works out.
