Short answer: The AMP Set is worth it if you will actually use the Crossrope app and accept a paid membership: the Bluetooth handles count your jumps and run guided, target-based workouts. If you simply want a good weighted rope, the AMP's main feature stays switched off without a membership, and the classic Get Lean Set covers the same basic idea for less. US price on crossrope.com as of Oct 31, 2026: $199 for the AMP Set, plus a membership for the connected features.

I bought the AMP Handles myself and have used them. My verdict on the handles: they are great, very grippy, and you can still hold them securely when you sweat. Pushing myself with the app and the AMP Handles was hugely motivating, and documenting my progress that way was fun.

What the AMP Set is, according to Crossrope

AMP is Crossrope's Bluetooth-connected version of its weighted jump rope system. The basic idea is the same as with the classic sets: the weight sits in the rope, and the handles clip onto ropes of different weights. The difference is inside the handles. According to Crossrope:

  • Set contents: AMP Handles with Bluetooth, plus a 1/4 lb, a 1/2 lb and a 1 lb rope. The handles are also compatible with the 2 lb rope and the Ropeless attachments (sold separately).
  • What the electronics do: in plain words, AMP Handles are handles with built-in electronics that count your jumps and send the data via Bluetooth to the Crossrope app on iOS or Android, where you see them in real time. With a membership, the app adds workout stats, jump targets, guided workouts and AI Coach.
  • Battery: up to 6 months of use per charge.
  • Without a membership: the handles still work as standard weighted handles, but without jump tracking or app workouts.
  • Extras: Crossrope mentions Apple Watch tracking, Apple Health and casting workouts to a TV, and says one membership covers up to five household members.
  • Sizes: XS to XL, chosen by height. Like all Crossrope ropes, they are not adjustable. My sizing guide explains the chart.

How pairing, charging and the membership tiers work step by step is covered in Crossrope AMP Handles explained; this review asks whether they are worth it.

My experience with the AMP Handles

I bought the AMP Handles with my own money and have used them. What stands out for me is the grip: the handles are great and very grippy, and even when I sweat, I can still hold them securely.

The second thing is motivation. It is hugely motivating to push yourself with the app and the AMP Handles while jumping rope, and it is fun to document your progress with them.

Battery life, warranty, set contents and prices in this review are according to Crossrope.

What the membership really costs

The AMP price tag is only part of the cost. As listed on crossrope.com on October 31, 2026, there are two membership levels:

  • Lite: $4.99 per month, for jump counting with a limited choice of workouts.
  • Standard: $14.99 per month, or $99 for the first year and $119 per year after that. According to Crossrope, this unlocks 3,000+ workouts, 50+ programs and AI Coach.

To make that concrete, here is what two years would cost, based only on those listed prices and without shipping, taxes or the optional extended warranty:

  • AMP Set with Standard billed yearly: $199 + $99 + $119 = $417
  • AMP Set with Lite for 24 months: $199 + 24 × $4.99 = $318.76
  • Get Lean Set without a membership: $129

So the honest comparison is the total cost over the time you will use the set, not $199 against $129. Keep in mind that, according to Crossrope, the 60-day return policy covers the physical products but not the membership. Crossrope itself suggests starting with the monthly option.

What I learned from counting jumps

Besides using the AMP Handles, I have counted jumps with other tools over the years. In 2017 I made a video about a jump rope with a built-in counter, and I called it “pure motivation” at the time. In 2021 I filmed a jumps-per-minute session with an LED smart rope.

What I take from that: a number on the screen gives you something concrete to beat, and that can help on days when motivation is low. But counting is not training. The counter doesn't improve your technique. So the question for AMP is less “is counting useful?” and more “will I use the app and its workouts often enough to justify the membership?”

What I like

  • The grip. From my own use: the AMP Handles are very grippy and stay secure in the hand even when you sweat.
  • The motivation. Pushing myself with the app and having a record of my progress kept me going.

The honest downsides

  • The main feature sits behind a subscription. Without a membership, you are paying extra for electronics you can't use.
  • Electronics have a shorter warranty. According to Crossrope, the battery and electronics are covered for one year as standard. The extended warranty costs extra and has to be bought within 60 days of your AMP purchase.
  • A battery to charge. Crossrope states up to 6 months per charge. Classic handles never need charging.
  • Ropes are wear parts. According to Crossrope, ropes are not covered by the warranty, and they wear faster on rough surfaces such as pavement.
  • Calorie claims. Crossrope markets AMP with calorie-burning claims. I can't verify them, and I wouldn't base a purchase on them.
  • Outside the US, returns cost money. According to Crossrope, free returns and exchanges apply to US customers only; international customers pay the return shipping.

Who the AMP Set is for, and who should skip it

AMP makes sense if you like training with an app, want guided workouts and targets rather than planning sessions yourself, enjoy tracking numbers over weeks and months, and are fine with a monthly or yearly membership on top of the set price.

You can skip it if you already plan your own workouts, you don't want another subscription, you mainly want heavy ropes for strength work (the Get Strong Set includes the 2 lb rope; AMP does not), or you are new to jumping rope and not yet sure you will stick with it.

Cheaper ways to count your jumps

If counting is the main attraction, there are cheaper routes; compare current models before you buy one:

  • Time instead of jumps. Structured intervals, for example 12 rounds of 1 minute with breaks like in my 2021 video below, need nothing more than a timer.
  • A watch you already own. I recorded many sessions with an Apple Watch. How well a particular watch or app counts jumps varies, so test it before relying on it.
  • A rope with a built-in counter. Like the one in my 2017 video. I can't vouch for the accuracy of any current model.
  • A classic Crossrope set. Same clip system and weighted ropes, no electronics, no membership: ☞ Get Lean Set on crossrope.com (US price on crossrope.com as of Oct 31, 2026: $129).

FAQ

Does the Crossrope AMP work without a membership?

Yes, but only as a regular weighted handle pair. According to Crossrope, a membership is required to unlock the Bluetooth features in the app, such as jump counting, tracking and guided workouts. Without one, AMP Handles work like standard weighted jump rope handles.

What does the Crossrope membership cost?

As listed on the AMP page on crossrope.com on Oct 31, 2026: Lite costs $4.99 per month (jump counting with limited workouts). Standard costs $14.99 per month, or $99 for the first year and $119 per year after that, and adds 3,000+ workouts, 50+ programs and AI Coach. Memberships are billed separately through the Crossrope app.

Can I use heavier ropes with the AMP Handles?

According to Crossrope, the AMP Set includes 1/4 lb, 1/2 lb and 1 lb ropes, and the AMP Handles are also compatible with the 2 lb rope and the Ropeless attachments, which are sold separately.

How long does the AMP battery last?

Crossrope states that the battery provides up to 6 months of use per charge. That is the manufacturer's figure; how long a charge lasts in practice depends on how often and how long you train with the handles.

What warranty does the AMP Set have?

According to Crossrope, AMP Handles have a limited lifetime warranty on material and workmanship of the non-electronic parts and a one-year warranty on the battery and electronics. An optional extended warranty adds 1, 2 or 3 years on the electronics and must be bought within 60 days of the AMP purchase. Ropes are not covered.

How do the AMP Handles feel in the hand?

I bought the AMP Handles myself and have used them. The handles are great and very grippy, and you can still hold them securely when your hands get sweaty.

My verdict

The AMP Set is a classic Crossrope system with a smart layer on top, and that smart layer only pays off with a membership. If you know you love app-guided training, it is a logical choice. If you are unsure, start with a classic set or a simple rope, find out how often you really jump, and decide about the app later. Either way, check the size chart and the return terms for your country before you order: ☞ check sizes and the current AMP price on crossrope.com.
